How to Change Your Theme or Install & Activate a New WordPress Theme

How to install a Wordpress theme?

Are you a Wordpress newbie? You already managed to install it on your hosting account (for hosting Wordpress I recommend using BlueHost), but now don’t know how to install a Wordpress theme that you like? I will explain you in this short article how to install a Wordpress theme. It’s really easy and shouldn’t take you more than 5 minutes.

STEP #1:
Download the theme. Just search Google for free Wordpress themes or similar phrases and look for a template that will fit your needs. Once you find a WP template that you like, preview it (check its live demo) to see if all is OK. Imagine how it shall look like on your website (blog). Then click the download button or link and you should be downloading a .zip file.

STEP #2:
Extract the .zip file on your PC and read the ReadMe document that is included within the template’s files (if any) for your reference and to know the license.

STEP#3:
Upload the complete folder of your template to your Wordpress installation - into the following folder: yourwebsite.com/wp-content/themes/
The best way to do this is to upload the files via FTP using an FTP client. Uploading files via a file manager would take too long time and would be quite difficult as you would have to upload the files file by file. So if your web hosting provider supports FTP, it’s worth using it.

STEP #4:
Now that the files are uploaded, you just need to activate the template. To activate it simply login to your WP installation on yourwebsite.com/wp-login.php and go to Appearance > Themes and just select the new theme. Click “Activate”. Now when you refresh your website, it should load with the new Wordpress theme.

So that’s it, you are done!

Post vs. Page

Pages

Pages are static and are not listed by date. Pages do not use tags or categories. An About page is the classic example. Pages can be displayed in the sidebar using the Pages widget, and some themes display pages in tabs at the top of the blog. If you have 50 pages and you use the Pages widget, then all pages will be listed all the time. The URL for a page looks like this: http://blogname.wordpress.com/page-title/

Posts

Posts are entries listed in reverse chronological order on the blog home page or on the posts page if you have set one in Settings > Reading. If you have created any sticky posts, those will appear before the other posts. Posts can be found in the Archives, Categories, Recent Posts, and other widgets. Posts are also displayed in the RSS feed of the blog. You can control how many posts are displayed at a time in the Reading Settings. The URL for a post includes the date the post was published like this: http://blogname.wordpress.com/2008/11/30/post-title/

How to Install Wordpress?

In our First Tutorial we will see How to install wordpress through Cpanel.

Step 1: Please, login to your CPanel and locate the Fantastico De Luxe icon:

Step 2: Find and click the WordPress link.

Step 3: Then choose New Installation:

Step 4: Decide upon the location of your blog - if you would like to have it as your site front page, leave the directory box blank, otherwise fill in the appropriate folder name. Next, fill in the administrator details and the e-mail account configuration then click the Install WordPress button.

 Step 5: A new confirmation page will be loaded for the installation. Click the Finish Installation button if no errors are reported.

 If else you will have to go back and rectify the specified issues.


Step 6: After completing the installation the final screen will load, providing you with the installation details. You will be able to e-mail the details to a specified address also in order to keep them for future reference.

Well done! You have successfully installed the Wordpress application!
